Lili Reinhart SLAMS Claims She Accused Cole Sprouse of Cheating: I NEVER Said That!

August 19, 2020

Late this spring, Lili Reinhart and Cole Sprouse broke up. Recently, Lili expressed how she is feeling.

Fans acccused Lili of speaking about Cole, even of accusing him of cheating. But she's shutting that down, hard.

In a recent article, Lili Reinhart described her collection of poems, a collection called Swimming Lessons.

"I felt the need to write that because I was scared -- and I am scared," she explained.

Lili expressed a worry "that people are going to try and create their own idea of what my love life looked or looks like."

"I'm not saying, ‘My boyfriend f--ked another woman,'" Lili emphasized.

She continued: "I'm saying, ‘I felt betrayed.'"

That makes sense.

What Lili was saying was not anything about her breakup with Riverdale costar Cole Sprouse.

Instead, she was expressing a fairly raw emotion -- a reality that often appears in poetry.

However, some people saw a few key words and jumped to conclusions.

Fans -- even well-meaning fans -- began to wonder if Cole had cheated on Lili, if this was her way of letting that slip.

While reading all of her words makes it clear that she is saying nothing of the sort, some fans were a little overzealous.

Naturally, the fan speculation was covered by various blogs and tabloids, and now Lili is speaking out in order to clear the air.

Taking to Twitter, Lili is setting the record straight: "Quotes taken from my most recent interview are not about a 'breakup.'"

"They are about the depression I’ve felt over these last few months," she explained.

"Tired of people taking my words out of context," Lili expressed, "and piecing together their own story for clickbait."

"I would never speak so candidly about something as personal as a breakup," Lili affirmed.

When it comes to the painful details of ending a relationship, she wrote: "That’s incredibly private."

"I was addressing my depression," Lili's explanation concluded.

We're not sure that whichever articles Lili is referring to are to blame.

This seems much more like very organic "fan overenthusiasm" than it does a calculated scheme to get clicks with misinformation.

Lili has every right, however, to be annoyed that she seemingly cannot speak at all without people trying to make it about her ex.

Lili plays Betty Cooper on Riverdale. Cole plays Jughead.

The show's viewership ranges widely, including older Millennials who enjoy the series as a spiritual successor to Gossip Girl.

But another part of the show's core audience are teenage girls who are hardcore "Bughead" shippers. To them, that Lili and Cole were dating in real life was icing on the cake.

But actors are not their characters, and actor relationships are not their on-screen romances.

Of course two young, beautiful people who work grueling long days on set together may end up dating.

But they're also likely to break up sooner or later, because that's what happens in relationships: you break up or you die.

So yes, Lili and Cole are over, no matter what their fans think of it.

Though not all of Cole's breakups over the years have been amicable (that's an understatement), this one seems to be.

From all that we have heard, they have no real issues continuing to work together despite no longer dating.

In June, Lili came out as bisexual. She is not Cole's first bi ex.

Some have said that this means that Cole is one of those guys who fetishizes deliberately dates bi girls.

But the simpler explanation is simply that there are a ton of bi folks in the world, and as our culture becomes less bigoted, more and more of them are coming out.

We are happy for Lili that she came out and can publicly be her authentic self.

At the same time, we hope that she will soon be able to express herself without eyes and thoughts immediately turning to Cole.

She's a whole person, not just Cole's ex.
