Valancourt Releasing Retro “Paperbacks from Hell” Books, Beginning With 1980’s ‘The Nest’
Back in 2017, Quirk Books published author Grady Hendrix’s Paperbacks from Hell, the ultimate resource for paperback horror novels from the ’70s and ’80s. Fans of that book will be happy to hear that Valancourt Books will this year be launching a line of retro re-releases under the Paperbacks from Hell banner, giving new life to books Hendrix wrote about!
It all begins with a re-release of 1980’s Gregory A. Douglas-penned The Nest, which “will go on sale in early April, with the other volumes following one a month thereafter.”
The other titles that’ll be released, you ask?
- Elizabeth Engstrom’s When Darkness Loves Us (1985)
- Bari Wood’s The Tribe (1981)
- Thomas Page’s The Spirit (1977)
- Bernard Taylor’s The Reaping (1980)
First up, in The Nest, “It was just an ordinary garbage dump on peaceful Cape Cod. No one ever imagined that conditions were perfect for multiple breeding, that it was a warm womb, fetid, moist and with food so plentiful that everything crawling, creeping and slithering could gorge to satiation. Then the change in poison control was made and the huge mutants began to leave their nest – in search of human flesh…”
