“The Walking Dead” Held Steady in Sunday Night’s Ratings, Despite the Oscars Dominating TV

February 27, 2019

“The Walking Dead” had another pretty damn good episode this past Sunday night, highlighted by a fun trip to the movies, an intense sequence involving a baby, and an emotional decision made by Daryl and the rest of our heroes. How did the episode do in terms of viewership? Well, the Oscars dominated the night, but “The Walking Dead” held steady.

Only slightly down from the previous week’s 4.5 million viewers, February 24th’s ‘Bounty’ pulled in 4.39 million viewers, with a 1.7 rating among adults 18-49. That makes ‘Bounty’ the least-watched episode of “The Walking Dead” in the show’s history, but it’s worth noting that the 1.7 rating in the key demo is actually up from the previous week’s 1.6 rating.

Meanwhile, 29.6 million people watched the Academy Awards on Sunday night.

For the sake of context, here are the episode-by-episode numbers for Season 9:

  • Episode 9.1 – 6.08 million
  • Episode 9.2 – 4.95 million
  • Episode 9.3 – 5.04 million
  • Episode 9.4 – 5.10 million
  • Episode 9.5 *Rick’s Final Episode* – 5.41 million
  • Episode 9.6 – 5.4 million
  • Episode 9.7 – 4.8 million
  • Episode 9.8 *Mid-Season Finale* – 5.1 million
  • Episode 9.9 *Mid-Season Premiere* – 5.2 million
  • Episode 9.10 – 4.5 million
  • Episode 9.11 – 4.39 million

As we always make sure to point out, “The Walking Dead” still remains a ratings powerhouse, even if the long-running series is now a long way from the highs it once reached.

A tenth season has already been ordered.
