Nearly twenty years before Danny McBride, David Gordon Green and Jeff Fradley were tasked with scripting “the final confrontation” between Laurie Strode and Michael Myers, writers Larry Brand and Sean Hood did much the same with 2002’s Halloween: Resurrection, which definitively ended the saga with the death of Laurie Strode at Michael’s hands.

Today we’re sad to report that co-writer Brand has passed away at the age of 69. Deadline reports that the writer/filmmaker “died peacefully February 9 at his home in Hollywood.”

Long before scripting Halloween: Resurrection, Larry Brand got his start as driver and production assistant to the legendary Orson Welles, and his own career kicked off with the thriller Backfire in 1987, his first feature as writer. Brand, who frequently worked with Roger Corman early in his career, subsequently wrote & directed films such as The Drifter, Masque of the Red Death, Overexposed, Paranoia, Christina and The Girl on the Train.

Larry Brand is survived by his brothers, Tim Roth and Nick Roth.
