‘Maniac Mansion’ Spiritual Successor ‘Thimbleweed Park’ Available For Free on Epic Games Store
Epic keeps attempting to woo people away from Steam and signing on for the Epic Games Store platform with free games. This time around, Terrible Toybox’s Thimbleweed Park gets the nod, and will be free to claim on the Epic Games Store platform from now until March 7.
In a not-so-subtle homage to The X-Files, Thimbleweed Park is the brainchild of Maniac Mansion creators Ron Gilbert and Gary Winnick, and as you’d expect, is a point-and-click adventure game that has quite a lot of humour to it.
The game centres on Ray and Reyes, a Mulder-and-Scully-like duo investigating a murder in the town of Thimbleweed Park. The town is host to a “colourful” cast, including the foul-mouthed Ransome the Clown who’s been cursed to wear his makeup forever, Chuck, a pillow salesman who also happens to be a ghost, and a computer programmer named Dolores who has returned home following the death of her aforementioned uncle Chuck.
Released in 2017, Thimbleweed Park is also available on GOG.com, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and the Nintendo Switch.
