Will Smith, Janet Hubert resolved their ‘Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ feud

The original Aunt Viv and her nephew Will have ended their feud after more than 25 years.

Janet Hubert, who played Aunt Viv on the “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” for three seasons, and Will Smith finally hashed out their issues during HBO Max’s 30th-anniversary reunion that aired Wednesday.

“Why? Why so far? You guys went so far. I lost so much,” Hubert, 64, asked.

Hubert, who was pregnant during the show’s third season, revealed that, unbeknownst to her co-stars’ knowledge, she was in an abusive marriage.

“I was no longer laughing, smiling, joking because there were things that were going on that nobody knew about,” she explained. “The cast had no idea what was going on.”

Smith, 52, admitted he wasn’t sensitive to her needs and that now having three children has opened his eyes to how he treated her at the time.

“I can see how I made the set very difficult for Janet,” he said.

Later in the evening, an emotional Hubert said being labeled as “difficult” tanked her career.

“I lost everything. Reputation. Everything. Everything. And I understand you were able to move forward but you know those words calling a Black woman ‘difficult’ in Hollywood is the kiss of death,” she explained. “It’s the kiss of death and it’s hard enough being a dark-skinned Black woman in this business.”

Smith, who was 21 at the time, confessed that he thought Hubert “hated” him, which prompted her to cry.

“But it was necessary for us to finally move forward, and I’m sorry that I have blasted you to pieces,” Hubert said, alluding to their very public insults. “I could not do a 30-year celebration of this show and not celebrate you and your contribution to this show and your contribution to my life.”

Smith and Hubert ended their chat with a warm embrace.

Hubert also met her show’s replacement, Daphne Maxwell Reid, for the first time.

“Thank you all for the love… the understanding especially you Will,” tweeted Hubert. “It was amazing seeing you all again. Be blessed, this is my story all about how… healing happened.”
