Netflix Finally Releases Its First Trailer for Greg Daniels' 'Space Force,' Starring Steve Carell and Lisa Kudrow

May 05, 2020

After creating The Office and co-creating Parks and Recreation, I wouldn't say that Greg Daniels disappeared, exactly, but he certainly took a backseat to Mike Schur on Parks and has kept a lower profile in recent years (although, Daniels did produce People of Earth). Daniels is back in a big way this month, however. Over the weekend, Amazon released his new show Upload (more on that later), and later this month, he is reteaming with Steve Carell from The Office for another workplace comedy of sorts: Space Force.

I'm pretty sure that the series started out as a parody of the idea of Donald Trump starting something called Space Force, but then Trump went ahead and actually created that very thing, so now the series is modeled after the supposed fifth branch of the military, which protects the United States from, uh, alien invasion.

Though we have been hearing about Space Force for a very long time, and though it is coming out at the end of the month, we are just now getting our first glimpse of the series, which boasts a phenomenal cast. In addition to Carell, there is Jane Lynch, Noah Emmerich, John Malkovich, Lisa Kudrow, Ben Schwartz, Jessica St. Clair, Fred Willard, and Jimmy Yang, among others.

The tone appears to be Veep-like, although based on the trailer, I'm not sure they nailed it. It looks a little broad, but with that cast, and that premise, I'm sure it will make a nice Memorial Day binge.

Space Force premieres on May 29th.
