Kentucky Goblins Documentary Series “Hellier” is Free to Watch and the First Episode Will Hook You
If you’re looking for something creepy to binge…
Fans of all things strange and paranormal are surely familiar with the so-called “Kelly-Hopkinsville Encounter,” the moniker given to a truly bizarre story from 1955. Story goes that twelve people living in a farmhouse in Christian County, Kentucky had reported to police one night that tiny goblin creatures had besieged the property, and a gun battle ensued. When police arrived on the scene, they found no evidence of the alien-like creatures, but the story nevertheless rose to prominence and even inspired Steven Spielberg to write Night Skies, an unmade film that laid the groundwork for classics like Poltergeist, E.T. and Gremlins.
All these years later, have the Kentucky Goblins returned?
Now available for streaming through YouTube, Vimeo and Hellier.TV, the brand spankin’ new Planet Weird Original “Hellier” is a five-part documentary series that sets out to uncover the true story (if there even is one, of course) behind the “Kentucky Goblins” that first popped up back in the ’50s. The story begins when paranormal investigator Greg Newkirk receives a strange e-mail from a Kentucky man claiming that humanoid creatures emerged from a mine shaft on his property. The man even shares photographs of three-toed footprints he had taken in his backyard. But then, out of nowhere, Greg never hears from him again.
That e-mail, sent back in 2012, eventually sends Greg and a paranormal team off to Kentucky to explore the alleged phenomenon, where they seem to uncover something even bigger.
The five-part, cinematic documentary series following an investigation into unsolved mysteries, impossible synchronicities, and a web of high strangeness which stretches from the heart of Appalachian coal country.
If you’re into this sort of thing, trust me when I say that the first episode of “Hellier” will hook into you, as it presents a deeply compelling case that will have you believing that maybe, just maybe, there actually are strange creatures out there that we’ve never uncovered. And maybe, just maybe, they’re connected to all kinds of other unusual sightings over the years.
Your mileage admittedly may vary beyond the fantastic debut episode, as “Hellier” eventually gets a little too esoteric in its quest to find any sort of meaning behind everything going on (it also loses sight of what was initially compelling about the story once it becomes clear that, well, alien creatures probably don’t exist… sigh), but it’s a fascinating watch all the same.
Best of all, it’s totally free. So check out Episode 1 of “Hellier” below and continue from there!
