Jordan Peele On the “Twilight Zone” Episode That Inspired ‘Us,’ Which is Now Streaming on Netflix

January 30, 2019

This year, Jordan Peele hosts and produces a reboot of “The Twilight Zone” for CBS All Access and he also unleashes his new horror film Us, which is an interesting bit of synchronicity given the fact that Us, well, it was partially inspired by an episode of “The Twilight Zone”!

In a new chat with Rolling Stone, Peele touched upon the film’s “TZ” influence.

Rolling Stone writer Brian Hiatt explains, “[Us’s] initial inspiration, appropriately enough, was the old Twilight Zone episode “Mirror Image,” which [Peele] saw as a kid. In it, a woman encounters her duplicate in a bus station and becomes convinced it arrived from a parallel universe, bent on replacing her.”

It’s terrifying, beautiful, really elegant storytelling,” Peele himself said of the episode. “And it opens up a world. It opens up your imagination.”

John Brahm directed “Mirror Image,” which starred Vera Miles (Psycho) and can currently be streamed on Netflix. So while you wait for Us, set aside 25 minutes to check it out!

Us arrives in theaters on March 22.
