Alex Winter Shares Previously Unseen Creature Concept Art from ‘Freaked’
Back in 1993, the black comedy Freaked (which was originally conceived as a horror film) was too weird for wide release, but the film has gone on to become a cult favorite. Set inside of a freak show, Freaked is loaded with crazy creature effects, brought to the screen by the combined talents of Steve Johnson, Tony Gardner and Screaming Mad George.
Bill & Ted star Alex Winter co-wrote and co-directed Freaked, and Winter took to Twitter last night to share some creature concept art you definitely haven’t seen before!
“Went into the Freaked files and pulled some material from concept, prep and shoot,” Winter tweeted. “All started when @tomjstern & I wrote a first draft with Gibby Haynes from Butthole Surfers, then got concept designs by Screaming Mad George.”
The art even showcases a creature that was cut from the movie when it evolved from horror movie to comedy, described by Winter as “an evil ancient baby named Abishag.”
