Friends, sometimes life throws you a bone, and I got a massive win this week because I somehow got the opportunity to chat about Valley Girl, one of my favorite movies of all time (and the best movie of 1983) with the stars of the original 1983 classic--E.G. Daily and Heidi Holicker, aka Loryn and Stacey.

First and foremost, you need to know I was dying inside and barely kept it together. I can be professional in many aspects of my life (surprisingly) when it is warranted, but this tested the lengths of my abilities--these ladies are legends. In theory, we were there to talk about the new Valley Girl, and sure, we did--but I came with a mission and it was to get as much behind the scenes info on what happened during the original movie as possible during the limited time we had. I was not let down. So on this fine Sunday, I'm here to share with you what you probably don't know about Valley Girl, both editions. Enjoy, friends--and mild spoilers for the 2020 version below.

The New Movie Used the Old Movie for Hair and Wardrobe Inspiration

One of my favorite bits of trivia about the OG Valley Girl is that a lot of the wardrobe in the movie belonged to the cast and, in particular, Holicker. She kept the tradition alive. She brought some of the original clothes to the set of the new version, and her shoes from then appeared in the film now.

According to Daily, when she went to film her cameo(!) for the new version (side note: a lot of the original cast filmed cameos for the new version, so if you're inclined to watch it, be on the lookout), they had photos of the original cast up as inspiration for the looks for the new cast, and it was a bit of a trip to be seen as living history. 1983 wasn't that long ago--come on, now!

Stacey Was in Love With Fred

OK, this was a highlight of the conversation because I've always suspected Stacey had a major thing for Fred, and that was confirmed by "Stacey" herself. Fred rocked her world and she didn't know what to do with the information since she compartmentalized everything in her life to fit neatly--and as we all know, the punk guys from Hollywood High didn't fit in a neat box for the valley girls. In addition to the Fred-love, Stacey had a thing for Tommy at the beginning of the movie, too--which you can totally tell, and I think help explains her motivations towards Julie more. Hopelessly in love (and doesn't know what to do about it) and someone who likes control and also doesn't know what to do about it--it all makes sense now!

Loryn's Party Hook-Up Scene Was Heartbreaking, and Real

Loryn is one of my favorite characters because on the surface she's bubbly and outgoing, but she has so many little moments of heartbreak in the movie you know there's a lot going on with her. One of the saddest scenes in the original is the party hook-up with Tommy, where he uses her and leaves, and she's left vulnerable and alone--and it was as uncomfortable to film as it was to watch, according to Daily. Poor Loryn.

Stacey + Fred= L-U-V, Loryn Becomes a Rock Star

Naturally, you can't have a conversation with the ladies of Valley Girl without asking them what would have come next for them. According to Holicker, Stacey would have gotten together Fred and Loryn would have become a rock star (in an art imitating life situation, since E.G. Daily is a very accomplished musician, in addition to everything else, although anyone who's seen Better Off Dead already knew that!)

Tommy or Randy?

Now you'd think this question would be a no-brainer--who would you have picked, Randy or Tommy? (Randy, duh.) But friends, when I posed the question, I was given a curveball in response: Fred. I think you know who said that, so it's fair to say that Stacey's love for Fred ran deep and I definitely would have watched that movie, too. Daily picked the people's champion, Randy, and all is right with the world.

The Cast Hooked Up (a Lot) on Set

So this too is probably a no-brainer, but in between filming, the cast was off making out--although I couldn't get anyone to name names, but enjoy that mental picture, y'all.
