M. Night Shyamalan’s ‘Glass’ Remains at the Top of the Box Office
Here’s a quick weekend report for those who keep up with box office success stories. M. Night Shyamalan‘s Glass (read our review) won the box office for the second week in a row. It’s now $73.5M domestic on its reported $20M budget. Globally it’s sitting at a ridiculous $162M with $200M all but a lock. It’s predecessor, Split, opened similarly and topped $275M in its full run. As I wrote last week, if Universal had their way, another sequel would be on the horizon, although Shyamalan owns the rights and had publicly stated that this will probably be the end to the trilogy.

In some bad news, 20th Century Fox took a big risk on The King Who Would be King and opened to only $10M globally on a massive reported $60M budget. This is a huge bummer for Attack the Block director Joe Cornish‘s family-friendly genre pic about a band of kids who embark on an epic quest to thwart a medieval menace.
As for Escape Room, it’s now sitting at $76M worldwide, which is exceeding all expectations. How high can this low risk $9M thriller climb? We’re excited to find out as many of us are hoping Sony turns this into an annual franchise.
