“To be honest, I think Francia should be getting this award, because she saved my life,” Selena said as she accepted Billboard’s Woman of the Year award on Thursday.

Back in September, Selena Gomez revealed she received a kidney transplant from her friend Francia Raisa as part of her lupus treatment .

She shared this emotional picture and caption on her Instagram page at the time.

The pair have since spoken openly about the surgery on several occasions.

And on Thursday night, Selena shed a tear as she dedicated her Woman of the Year trophy to Francia at the Billboard Women in Music ceremony.

And when she was presented with the accolade by actress Elle Fanning, Selena got emotional as she looked back at Francia.

She told the star-studded crowd from the stage: "To be honest, I think Francia should be getting this award, because she saved my life."

She then choked back tears as she apologized, while turning to Francia, who looked equally emotional.

She added: "Honestly, I couldn’t be more grateful for the position that I’ve been given in my career, from 7 to 14 to now.

"I feel like for me, with my music, I’ve been able to illustrate the things that I want. And I’m reminded by a team of people who believe in me even when I don’t myself, and I couldn’t be luckier."
