Ellen Degeneres Kicked This Singer off Her Show After She Made Horrible Homophobic Comments

s 2017 comes to a close, it's time for us to start looking back over the year and reflecting. As we all know, 2017 was...well, interesting. Maybe intense is a better word for it, but either way — it's nearly over people! So you can stand up proudly, look in the mirror, and pat yourself on the back. You did it! You made it through one of the most hellish years to date!

Now, it's important for us to look back at some of the most popular stories and headlines of 2017. For instance, the time Ellen DeGeneres was a total boss and canceled Kim Burrell's performance on her show following the gospel singer's homophobic comments.

Just in case you aren't aware, this is Kim Burrell.

She’s a gospel singer from Houston, Texas. In 2002 she was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Soul Gospel Album.

Last year she recorded a duet with Pharrell Williams for the 2016 film, Hidden Figures.

The song, “I See A Victory” won an Image Award in 2017 and was featured on the Oscar-nominated film’s soundtrack. The song received an excellent review from Rolling Stone.

During awards season, it's not unusual for the singers of a major award-nominated film to perform on talk shows and other events around the country.

Which is why Burrell and Pharrell Williams were slated to perform January 5th, 2017 on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

But that never happened.

Burrell’s performance was canceled after a video surfaced of her telling a church in Texas that “the perverted homosexual spirit, and the spirit of delusion and confusion… has deceived many men and women.”

Yep. Sounds like it was the right decision for DeGeneres to cancel Burrell.

DeGeneres wasn't the only one to take action after Burrell's comments were made.

Janelle Monae, who starred in Hidden Figures, and Pharrell Williams both denounced Burrell’s comments after they were publicized.
