The theme of Last night’s episode of 90 Day Fiance, was lowered expectations. Apparently, most of these couples expected rainbows and flowers once they were together in person. But right now, most of them have experienced storms and weeds. Once again, I have to ask what the hell do these people talk about before they agree to get married. It can’t be about their future. Every single one of these couples has at least one confused person in the relationship.
Patrick and Thaís fight over finances. Jibri‘s parents shift his mind on marriage with Miona. Biniyam enters the MMA arena, despite Ariela’s better judgment. Bilal blindsides Shaeeda with talk of a prenup. Kara goes drinking without Guillermo. Emily reveals a wedding purchase, she made in secret. Let’s get straight to the recap.
Emily, 29 (Salina, Kansas) and Kobe, 34 (Cameroon)
Kobe and Emily are feeling the pressure from their upcoming nuptials. He would prefer to have a smaller budget so that they can get on their feet faster. Unlike Emily who wants all the pomp and circumstance $10,000 will afford them. Sigh! I understand both sides, it’s her first wedding and she wants to feel like a bride. But as Kobe keeps reminding her, they can’t rely on her parents forever. While wedding dress shopping, she reveals to her family that she bought her own ring, in case she doesn’t like the one Kobe give her. Everyone is shocked that she is focusing more on a ring, than her actual relationship. Now when he wastes money on the nice ring she demanded, I hope she feels like an idiot. But knowing her she will just blame him. How inconsiderate can you be? I have no doubt this is going to backfire on her.
Jibri, 28 (Rapid City, South Dakota) and Miona, 23 (Serbia)
Jibri’s parents meet with him to discuss some of their concerns about his relationship with Miona. His mother has noticed he seems extremely stressed and unhappy lately. Jibri admits that if he wasn’t under a 90 day time limit then he would wait to get married. When he reveals that he has agreed to a beach wedding to please Miona, his parents reveal they can no longer attend. Yikes. This is a sad situation. I can tell his mother really battled with herself about the situation. She even chose a coffee shop to meet so that she could finally have a private conversation with her son, without interruption.
Jibri’s conversation with his parents is weighing heavily on his mind. He decides to take Miona to a park for them to talk about what is going on. When he tells her about his parent’s thoughts, she instantly gets defensive. She even makes several negative remarks about his mom. Girl, your man is close to his family, you won’t win trying to make him choose. He even has to tell her that they continue down the same path, things won’t work. But when he suggests that they postpone the wedding she really snaps. SMH… I don’t know. There are a lot of issues here. Miona needs to find a hobby and some friends so that she has more to focus on besides Jibri.
Bilal, 42 (Kansas City, Missouri) and Shaeeda, 37 (Trinidad and Tobago)
Shaeeda and Bilal’s sister go shopping for wedding dresses. While there, she vents about their relationship issues. Although his sister gives her some good advice, it is apparent that she now has concerns of her own. Later, Bilal takes Shaeeda on what he described as a romantic date. But instead of woo her, he brings up the prenuptial agreement he has had drawn up. Umm… why the hell would he think that was an appropriate time to discuss that? She claims when he brought it up early in their relationship, she told him she would never sign one. But despite her hesitation, he isn’t going to let it go. In fact, he says in a post interview, if she refuses to sign a prenup then they don’t have a future. The only problem is Shaeeda is smart enough to realize that document only protects his interest and not her own.
Patrick, 31 (Austin, Texas) and Thais, 25 (Brazil)
For some reason, Patrick thinks it’s a good idea to take Thais to an expensive furniture store and not expect her to want anything. Since everything was picked out for the house before her arrival, she wants to incorporate more of her style. The only issue is he doesn’t want to waste money on décor when he has already spent nearly $10,000 on her. Honestly, he set himself up for that. Patrick should have taken her to Home Goods or somewhere inexpensive for décor, not a store where the cheapest thing is a $300 vase.
Their argument continues when Patrick and Thais arrive home. When she starts complaining about only buying one vase, tensions flare. Much to her shock, he tells her she can buy as much décor as she wants when she has her own money. Clearly Thais thinks that she should be given an unlimited budget for everything she wants. She doesn’t seem to understand prioritizing needs versus wants. Given that Patrick grew up poor, he has a different mindset when it comes to money. One would think she would understand since she didn’t live in a mansion in Brazil. Instead of seeing his perspective, she thinks he is being controlling. What did she expect when she arrived with nothing, but her clothes? Even if he shares, there will always be an imbalance of power.
Ariela, 30, (Princeton, New Jersey) and Biniyam, 31 (Ethiopia)
Biniyam confronts Ariela about embarrassing him at his gym when she had a fit of jealous rage at the sight of seeing him sparring with a woman. She admits that she was wrong for her reaction, but she believes he should have disclosed that he would be working with a woman. After some back and forth, they both agree to do things differently in the future. Biniyam wants to focus on his upcoming match and not the drama. Well, good luck with that.
While Biniyam is preparing for his fight mentally, Ariela is trying her best to discourage him. She is worried that he could get seriously hurt. But he is confident that everything will work out. I don’t know why, but I am actually eager to see what he can do in the ring. As much as I don’t care for some of Ariela’s ways, I am happy she and her mom chose to support Biniyam. Especially since he won his fight in record time and will remember that moment for the rest of his life.
Kara, 29 (Charlottesville, Virginia) and Guillermo, 23 (Venezuela)
Kara meets with one of her male friends for drinks. Very quickly their conversation shifts to her relationship with Guillermo. It’s obvious that her friend isn’t convinced she is ready for marriage. When he points out the risk she is taking, she reminds him that she always takes risk and they work out. She also wants Guillermo to take charge more often and put her in her place. For many reasons, I seriously doubt that. It seems fun in theory, but I think she likes telling her younger man what to do. Even her exes and friends say she has that issue. The jury is still out on these two. We will have to stay tuned to see where this relationship ends up.
TELL US: SHOULD PATRICK LET THAIS BUY WHATEVER SHE WANTS FOR THEIR HOME? SHOULD JIBRI AND MIONA POSTPONE THEIR WEDDING? DO YOU THINK EMILY IS SELFISH FOR BUYING A RING BEHIND KOBE’S BACK?
