Chung Eui-yong, South Korea’s national security adviser, was at the White House on Thusday, March 8, to make the announcement of the invitation to which Trump confirmed in a Twitter post.

This will be the first time an incumbent US president will be meeting with a North Korean leader, hinting at a possible step forward for international relations between the two conflicting countries.

In the past year, the two leaders bumped heads when Trump called Kim “rocket man”, which the latter responded to by calling Trump a “dotard”. The second attempt that Kim did to taunt the US president happened earlier in January of this year when he made it known he had a nuclear button. Trump responded that he had his own button which was “bigger and more powerful”.

The location of the meeting is yet to be determined. Trump appreciated the gesture of invitation done by the North Korean leader and also mentioned in his tweet that Kim had talks with South Korean representatives about his commitment to denuclearization and ceasing of nuclear or missile tests during the meeting. The summit is set to be held not later than May this year.
