In the previous adaptation of How The Grinch Stole Christmas, the Grinch was voiced by none other than comedy legend, Jim Carrey. However, in this new version of the beloved Dr. Seuss story, Sherlock and The Imitation Game actor, Benedict Cumberbatch will be playing the titular character.

This version of The Grinch is produced by Illumination Entertainment which was responsible for producing films such as Despicable Me! and the Minions. Fans were given a first look of the Grinch when the trailer came out on March 8.

The trailer introduces the Grinch as a very unhappy person waking up annoyed when his alarm plays the song Happy by Pharrell. It also gives a sneak peak at the residents of Whoville when the Grinch goes grocery shopping. According to the press release, the people of Whoville are planning a bigger Christmas celebration which makes the Grinch plot an even bigger idea to ruin Christmas.

The film was scheduled for release last year, but was pushed back to this year instead. It’s slated to come out on November 9, 2018 in theaters worldwide, just in time for Christmas!
