Professional Baseball Player Cut From Team After Video Of Him Beating Girlfriend Surfaces

March 15, 2018

Danry Varquez, a 24-year-old outfielder of The Lancaster Barnstormers was cut off from the minor league team on Wednesday after an old surveillance video was released showing him beating his then girlfriend.

The woman was hit multiple times and pulled down the stairs as she put her arms up in self-defense.

In August of 2016, Vasquez was arrested for domestic violence. Despite the disturbing video evidence, he was not handed any serious penalty.

The couple was only made aware of the video after surveillance was reviewed 2 days after the incident. Varquez was then dropped from the Corpus Christi Hooks, his team at the time, due to the case.

Though he was arrested after the video was turned over to the police, the woman did not press charges.

Vasquez’s case was dismissed after he completed the ordered anger management classes earlier this month.

He signed with the Lancaster Barnstormers of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, an independent baseball league. He was set to play for their 2018 season in January but was kicked off the team on March 13, after footage for the 2016 domestic violence incident was released to the public.

The full video of the incident has since been uploaded on YouTube.
