At least 6 people have been killed in Miami’s deadly bridge collapse on Thursday.

The pedestrian bridge being built near Florida International University was scheduled to open early next year. Witnesses in the area heard a loud noise and then found that there were people trapped in cars and under fallen debris.

Senator Marco Rubio made a statement regarding the bridge’s collapse on his Twitter.

The cables that suspend the #Miami bridge had loosened & the engineering firm ordered that they be tightened. They were being tightened when it collapsed today. https://t.co/9Uc9EUsDYY

The rescue mission has now become a recovery mission reports say there might be no survivors under the wreckage. At least 9 people were brought to hospitals for treatment. Doctors and medical students in the area quickly sprang into action to give medical attention to victims.

There were at least 5 or 6 cars underneath the collapsed bridge.

The authorities and engineers are working to find out the cause of the collapse. Florida Governor Rick Scott also stated, “If anyone has done anything wrong we will hold them accountable.”

President Donald Trump was also aware of the incident and has since made a statement regarding rescue efforts.

The homicide bureau will take the lead in investigating the incident. Senator Rubio also mentioned that the bridge was a project intended to save lives since a student was killed while crossing the road last year. There could still be more casualties discovered underneath the rubble.
