Netflix To Showcase Powerful Female Roles In New Films & Series

With the success of blockbuster “Black Panther,” the critically acclaimed “Mudbound” and the anticipation for Disney’s “A Wrinkle in Time,” black women are set to rule the screens in 2018.

And Netflix helping lead the charge by debuting a slate of new programming starring women of color.

Netflix is dropping about a half dozen new shows, documentaries and films in March (which is Women’s History Month) that speak to the black and brown experience through a woman’s lens. From comedy, to drama – and even a hip hop documentary – Netflix’s new content is reminding viewers that the future is female.

One standout is “First Match,” a story of a Brooklyn girl in foster care who joins the boys’ wrestling team as a way to get connect with her estranged dad.
