Viraldice: White House Insiders Are Saying Something Surprising About a Potential Second Term for Trump

ver since Trump was elected, we find ourselves asking questions, like "WHY?!" and "Is this really happening in real life?" and "Dear merciful heavens, what did we do to deserve this?"

However, recent reports have us asking a new question. Namely: Could this happen again?

Right now, Donald Trump is the president.

However, there are a few White House insiders who seem to think that there may not be a second term for him.

Rand Paul is one of those insiders. Here's his reaction to being asked whether the country would benefit from a Republican primary in 2020:

Paul’s views were echoed by fellow Republican Chris Christie, who stated that he’d support Trump if he ran for a second term, but “four years is a long time, and especially for someone who has not spent a lifetime in politics, so I think those years affect him differently. So I’m sure the president will make whatever decision is best for him and his family and the country.”

If Trump does decide not to run for a second term, he wouldn’t be the first. When James K. Polk was elected, he promised he would only serve for four years, then did exactly that. Calvin Coolidge announced he wouldn’t be pursuing reelection by handing reporters a note that said, “I do not choose to run for president in 1928.” Lyndon B. Johnson also chose not to run again in 1968.

The speculation that Trump might possibly be a one-term president has been met with a wide variety of reactions.

Some people think there’s no way the Republican party would even consider having Trump as a candidate again.

Stranger things have happened, though. Like Donald Trump getting elected in the first place, for instance.

Others are pointing out that we're still not even one year into the current term. (It feels like it's been way longer though, right?)

On the bright side, the year 2020 is still quite a ways away. If the past year has been any indication, a lot can happen before the next election.

On the other hand, 2020 is so. Far. Away. Are we sure we can make it another 3 years with the current arrangement?

So, will he run again? We'll just have to wait and see.

In the meantime, let’s all try and buckle in and make it through the rest of 2017.

It promises to be a bumpy ride.
