When people make Christmas wishes, they usually ask for expensive gadgets or other kinds of valuable items. Or, if they don’t directly ask for such gifts, they’re hoping for them. But this is a story about a 19-year-old girl from Dallas, Texas, who had a different kind of Christmas wish.

Her name is Jill Young, and her Christmas wish wasn’t even something she wanted for herself, but a loved one. “All I want for Christmas is for my dad’s hotel carpet Instagram to go viral, please help this happen,” she wrote on Twitter, and boy did the internet deliver!

On his Instagram, her dad, Bill Young AKA myhotelcarpet, posts photos of a wide variety of hotel carpets that he has come across during his travels. The patterns and colors are varied making for a very bright and lurid Instagram page.

Jill said in an interview with BuzzFeed News that she “always loved [his Instagram] because it’s just very pure,” but that she was “always surprised he never put in the effort to get a whole bunch of followers.”

“He didn’t really care about that. He just really liked carpet, and that made me really happy,” the 19-year-old college student explained.

His Instagram certainly did go viral – the initial tweet received thousands of retweets and likes and so word spread very quickly. All of a sudden, complete strangers were keen to get onboard with the plan to boost the number of Jill’s dad’s followers.

And it grew very rapidly – just three days ago, Jill’s dad amassed an impressive 15.5k followers on Instagram which Jill announced on Twitter. She expressed her deepest gratitude to her Twitter followers that they all pitched in to make her Christmas wish come true.

But Christmas is still a month away and things have gotten even better for the teen…
