Scientists Reveal How Most Western Men Will Be Infertile By 2060

November 01, 2017

Remember the movie Children of Men? It’s the one staring Clive Owen where the human race is facing extinction because men’s sperm counts dropped to zero? Well, it just might have been prophetic.

Scientific research has shown that the sperm count among Western men has plummeted by 60% in the last forty years. What’s worse, there could be mass infertility as soon as the year 2060!

So if you’re thinking about having children, now might be the time to start trying. After all, having kids is vital to preserving the human existence.

The worsening trend is present in North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Interestingly, in a study of 42,935 men, there were absolutely no signs of a decline in sperm count in men from Asia, Africa or South America.

So what’s causing this decline in sperm count among some men but not others? Research claims the Western lifestyle is to blame. Pesticides, hormone-disrupting chemicals, diet, stress, smoking and obesity have all been linked to infertility.

Chemicals associated with low sperm count included those used in plastics and flame resistant materials. BPA, which has attracted attention in the news for being a known hormone disruptor, was one of the culprits. It is still found in many household items, including some water bottles and plastic dishes.

The standard Western diet, high in alcohol, fats, caffeine, processed meat and starch also effects male fertility. Throw in stress, cigarettes, and lack of exercise, and it’s the perfect recipe for a decrease in sperm count.

One expert on the study said the results were “shocking” and should be a “wake-up call” for Western men to change their lifestyles. What’s worse is that “the sperm count may sensitively reflect the impacts of the modern environment on male health throughout the life course.”
