Trump Just Fat-Shamed the Kids He Hosted for Trick or Treating at the White House
onald Trump met with the children of the White House press corps on Friday to kick off Halloween celebrations. It was meant to brief meeting – in and out, smile for the cameras, shake hands, hand out candy – that sort of thing.
There was only one problem. Our president literally does not know how to be around children.
Also, these were reporters' kids, which meant they were – you know, the enemy. Trump wasted no time in pointing out this fact.
“I cannot believe the media produced such beautiful children,” Trump said. “How the media did this, I don’t know.”
You'd think he'd stop there, right? At this point, anyone would, but not our fearless leader, oh no.
Once he gathered the children on his side of the desk, he pointed to the White House press corps. “Do you know who they are?” he said to their parents. “They’re the friendly media.”
Seems a little inappropriate to pit these innocent kids against their parents, and use them as pawns in your political game, don’t you think?
We doubt the kids care what the media is. They were there for candy! But moving on.
Trump then asked the children, “Are you going to grow up to be like your parents? Don’t answer that. That question’s only gonna get me in trouble.”
Pretty sure we crossed that line a long time ago, dude. But still, this question is incredibly cringeworthy.
Even after giving the children gifts, Trump still couldn't let the media thing go. (Don't forget. These are kids, folks.)
Turning to a little girl dressed as a witch, he asked, “How does the press treat you? I bet you get treated better by the press than anybody in the world.”
Excuse us while we take a moment to remove our faces from our palms at the thought of the leader of the free world involving children in his vendetta against the press.
But he wasn't done yet. He then turned to the members of the press and lobbed another insult.
“Well congratulations, folks, you did a good job – here, you did a good job.” He pointed to the children as he said this. “I wouldn’t say you did a good job here (a reference to the White House) but really, you did a good job.”
You’d think that would be the last of it, right…? It wasn’t.
Trump had one last trick up his sleeve.
As he handed out candy to the children, he said, “Who likes this? Well, you have no weight problems. That’s the good news, right?”
Our president, folks.
