Harry Potter Fans Can Now Learn The Entire Hogwarts Curriculum
Can you believe it’s been 20 years since Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was first published? The British Library in London has created an exhibit just to celebrate the occasion. It blends both fact and fiction to create a spellbinding experience.
Historical artifacts are displayed along side pages from JK Rowling’s personal archives. Fans can get a taste not only of the inner workings of Rowling’s creation, but also glimpse into the history of magic that inspires modern fantasy tales like Harry Potter.
Highlights from he exhibition include a hand written chapter from the first Harry Potter novel, a deleted section of The Chamber of Secrets, and Rowling’s original synopsis for The Philosopher’s Stone, which she sent to publishers 12 times before being accepted for publication.
Fans can also get a glimpse into the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry through hand drawn sketches of the school grounds, student timetables that told where any student was at any given time of day during the year, and a detailed list of course offerings.
Rowling created the drawings to help create the world of Harry Potter and to keep the story straight in her head and offers a rare peek into an author’s writing process.
“The British Library has done an incredible job,” Rowling said, giving her seal of approval. “Encountering objects for real that have in some shape or form figured in my books has been quite wonderful and to have several of my own objects in the exhibition is a reminder of 20 amazing years since Harry was first published.”
