David Swinyar, a middle-school teacher at the Kernan Middle School in Jacksonville, has been suspended after making racist remarks in his class last year.

Duval County School District
The 48 year-old Math teacher reportedly told his 7th and 8th grade classes that they should not be dating African-American boys “because they are not worth it”. He was also reported to have used racial slurs by saying, “If your boyfriend says bad things to you and/or treats you wrong, that means he’s acting like a n—–.”
In a separate incident, the teacher was said to have made racist remarks in August 2017. A student recalled the Swinyar saying, “If my daughter was dating someone who used the ‘f’ word, I wouldn’t have any respect for that n—–,” The student called him out about the incident to which he denied using the word.
Students were shocked after hearing the teacher use the racial slur. Swinyar was also reported to have belittled his students several times calling them “dumb” and would tell them that they ended up in his class because they failed the Florida Standards Assessments tests. Other than berating his students, a female student said she felt uncomfortable around the teacher because he would allegedly stare at female students’ breasts and other parts.
Investigations have been done and the school’s principal found credible evidence to back up student’s claims. Swinyar has been suspended without pay for ten days. After his suspension, he will be reassigned to another position where he will not be in contact with students for the rest of the academic year. His employment contract is set to expire on June 30, 2018.
