Matt Barker left his home at 7:30 in the morning to bring both of his daughters to day care. The father had dropped off his five-year-old, but had left one-year-old Katera inside the truck.

He went back home at around 8 A.M. and then took a ride-sharing service to the airport to leave for his business trip. His wife, Jenny Barker, was at work that day. By the time she had to pick up her kids that evening, the day care staff told her that the one-year-old wasn’t there.
Her husband hadn’t dropped off Ketara with her sister that morning. She called him and realized that the infant was still in the truck.

She rushed home and called 911. When Jenny opened the door, the infant wasn’t breathing, so she performed CPR on the child until paramedics arrived. The baby was then taken to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital were she was pronounced dead on arrival.
The temperature at Nashville reached to about 89 degrees that day. Though the cause of death has not been released, it’s believed that the child suffocated or suffered cardiac arrest due to the heat.
The father flew back to Nashville on the same night and both parents are currently under investigation. At present, there have been no charges placed.
