Louis Moschitti, a resident of Fairless Hills in Pennsylvania, said that when his beloved dog Bruno would wander around the neighborhood, he would always come back within a few hours. This time, Bruno didn’t come back.

“That was before the rain, and I think what happened is while he was gone, the rain came and washed away his scent, and he couldn’t find his way back,” said Moschitti.
A few days later, Bruno’s body was found a few blocks from home with a puncture wound on his side.
The owner thought that Bruno had been shot by a pellet gun and left for dead. Upon closer inspection, authorities believed that Bruno was attacked by a bird of prey.

All About Birds
“We can’t say if it was a hawk or an owl, but that little six-pound dog was probably picked up by a bird and either dropped or injured enough that it killed it,” said Nikki Thompson, Chief Humane Officer for the Bucks County SPCA.
The officer also gave some advice for pet owners, especially since this is the time where birds of prey usually fly up near the area.

“One of the best things you can do is that you can always monitor your small dogs when they are outside,” Thompson said. “Make sure you are with them, as birds are less likely to attack them if they have a person with them.”
Though Louis Moschitto is saddened by what happened to Bruno, he hopes that it will bring awareness to the community so that no one has to experience something like this.
“For all the people out there that have small dogs, It happened to my dog and it can happen to yours,” he said.
