This Guy Turned a Furby Into an Amazon Echo and the Results Will Haunt Your Dreams
f you were alive in the 90s, you probably remember Furbies: those furry robots that were supposed to learn to speak English but actually just woke you up in the middle of the night speaking in “Furbish” and demanding you hang out with them and their weird lifeless eyes.
This week a web developer in Tampa, Florida figured out how to turn his Furby into an Amazon Echo, with truly unnerving results.
Furbies were a must-have toy in the 90s.
Anyone who was anyone in 4th grade had a Furby, a small furry robot resembling an owl or maybe a hamster? Some sort of rodent-bird lovechild that had also visited an over-enthusiastic hair stylist and/or colorist.
Furbies were kind of amazing technology for the 90s.
As scary as they were, Furbies were pretty cool. They arrived speaking only “Furbish” but over time, the little furry robots were programmed to gradually unveil new English words, giving the appearance that they had learned how to speak from their owners.
Web developer and designer Zach took a Furby and rewired it to act as Alexa, the voice of the Amazon Echo.
In a video on YouTube, Zach explains how he dismantled the Furby and reassembled it to connect to the Amazon Echo. So while the Furby still looks like a Furby, it performs all the tasks Alexa does.
Zach frequently makes how-to videos on YouTube.
On Zach’s channel howchoo he frequently posts videos about how to tinker with electronics to make them do new things.
The first step involves removing Furby’s outer fur.
And it’s terrifying! Furby was scary to begin with, if we’re being honest, but seeing it’s eyes and beak attached to a stripped down robot body is downright nightmare fuel.
Here’s What Prince George Wants for Christmas, According to His Adorable Handwritten Wish List
ost little kids wait the entire year to write their Christmas list. They spend spring, summer, and fall on their very best behavior, in hopes that Santa Claus will deem them "nice" instead of "naughty" and they'll get all of the toys their little hearts desire.
But if you're a prince and actual royalty, what in the world could you possibly want since you seem to have everything already? Well, Prince George of Cambridge knows exactly what he wants, and it's just one thing. It's also probably not what you might expect.
This is Prince George of Cambridge, third in line to the British throne.
He’s also maybe the absolute cutest child. Can you seriously even take that little smile?
But it makes sense, since he comes from what can largely be considered a near perfect family.
They even color scheme together as they walk holding hands. Oh, and don’t worry because Princess Charlotte, his younger sister, is just as cute as he is.
But let's be real...Prince George is really dang cute.
And he’s already growing up so quickly! Back in September, Prince George attended his first day of primary school.
One has to stop and think, now that he's in school, will his classmates call him "Prince George"?
On his first day, Prince George arrived with a backpack that had “George Cambridge” on it. It was reported that this is what he’ll go by while at school.
So basically, despite being royalty, he’s just like any other little kid.
Except the fact that he's an internet meme.
It’s hard to not be obsessed with him, and we all know how the internet blows things up immediately. Since he’s so adorable and makes hilarious facial expressions all the time, it’s no surprise that he’s a classic reaction picture.
Keep reading to find out what Prince George asked for.
This Cringeworthy Video Exposes the Victoria’s Secret Models Who Said the N-Word Backstage
n Tuesday, the annual Victoria's Secret fashion aired on CBS. The show, which was taped in Shanghai last week, was by all accounts, an extravaganza of international proportions. The models looked fabulous, as models often will. The runway was superbly lengthy. Even better, barring one notorious incident, almost all the models made it down the runway and back, lingerie and wings still in good form.
Unfortunately, the show has also had no end of controversy, much of it having to do with a dreaded word called racism.
This year's Victoria's Secret fashion show was meant to be an extravaganza of sartorial excellence.
Filmed in Shanghai, China, the show was meant to star the likes of Gigi Hadid, Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Candice Swanepoel, Lily Aldridge… You know, all the big names you think about when you think about giraffe-like women with unrealistically fit bodies stomping down an artificial sidewalk.
It was also going to be Alessandra Ambrosio's big sendoff.
The 36-year-old Brazilian model, who has walked the Victoria’s Secret runway for the past 17 years was ready to give up her wings so she could spend more time with her family. This was going to be her big moment, her grand finale.
But then…
One by one, things started falling apart with the show.
Gigi Hadid, the reigning fashion It Girl had to drop out because her visa wasn’t approved by the Chinese authorities. The reason? Racism. Video had surfaced of Hadid earlier in the year making a racist gesture with her eyes that had Chinese social media users fuming.
Other models were also unable to make the show because they were denied visas.
Big names such as Julia Belyakova, Kate Grigorieva, and Irina Sharipova were denied for issues ranging from racist incidents to “diplomatic issues.”
Even the show’s big talent wasn’t spared.
Singer Katy Perry was replaced with Harry Styles after the Chinese denied her visa because of a performance she'd done in neighboring Taiwan, which China insists is actually part of their country.
To make matters worse, one of the models, Chinese-born Ming Xi slipped and fell on the runway and CBS not only didn’t cut out the clip, they also showed footage of her crying afterwards, igniting a firestorm of social media criticism.
The point is, the Victoria’s Secret fashion show was a big, hot mess. None of it, however, compared to what happened next.
This Dude Accidentally Sent His Mom A Very Scandalous Picture Of His GF And People Are Cringing
Luckily mom seems oblivious, for now.
Vallance has even taken the plunge and introduced Meghan to his mom, and that went great too!
"They get along well thankfully," he said of his GF and his mom.
It's a good sign, because Vallance said he and his mom are pretty tight, and he is pretty open with her about everything.
"She's very comfortable with me and I'm comfortable with her," he said.
Maison Vallance
Recently, Vallance's mom asked him to find a shirt she had given him, which had his last name on it. He searched his room, and when he found it, he had Meghan pose with it on his bed to send to his mom.
Maison Vallance
Um.
Maison Vallance
What are THOOOSEEE?
Maison Vallance
If you're wondering, Vallance's mom didn't notice anything off about the pic (or so he thinks).
Vallance said he doesn't think she's clicked open the photo on iMessage.
He plans on telling his mom about it though, and promised to share her response with BuzzFeed News. He predicts it will be along the lines of, "What the hell is wrong with you?"
"I think it will be funny and I'll just say, OK, let's forget about this now," he said.

Geraldo Rivera, the Reporter Who Drugged and Groped Bette Midler, Just Tried to Defend Matt Lauer
his Wednesday, longtime Today show host Matt Lauer was fired from his job at NBC for "sexual misconduct." In a matter of hours, details poured out about the predatory sexual behavior Lauer had routinely engaged in while enjoying a $25 million per year position at NBC:
Lauer had a button in his office to lock in his hapless victims so "they could be alone." He liked to play "f***, marry, or kill," so he could talk about the co-hosts he wanted to sleep with. He once gifted a coworker with a sex toy and explicitly written instructions of how he would use them on her.
Basically, Lauer had behaved in the most despicable ways possible – both sexually and in his capacity as one of the stars of NBC.
As a result, he was roundly condemned across social media, and everyone was happy his reign of terror finally had come to an end.
Everyone, that is, except for Geraldo Rivera.
The former lawyer turned reporter (who, as you will recall, once tweeted a half-naked photo of himself) quickly jumped to Lauer’s defense on the social media site Twitter, where he issued a series of tweets.
Sad about @MLauer great guy, highly skilled & empathetic w guests & a real gentleman to my family & me. News is a flirty business & it seems like current epidemic of #SexHarassmentAllegations may be criminalizing courtship & conflating it w predation. What about #GarrisonKeillor?
— Geraldo Rivera (@GeraldoRivera) November 29, 2017
A jerk’s a jerk in dating. #SexHarassment should be confined to situations where superior imposes himself on subordinate who feels unable to complain because of power of perp or feared consequences to victim’s employment. Shouldn’t be used to get even w bad bosses or hated ex’s
— Geraldo Rivera (@GeraldoRivera) November 29, 2017
#SexHarassment allegations should require: 1-made in a timely fashion-say w/n 5 yrs. 2-some contemporaneous corroboration, like witnesses, electronic or written communications. W $ settlements in multi-millions slight chance exists some victims are motivated by more than justice
— Geraldo Rivera (@GeraldoRivera) November 29, 2017
This issue is so red hot right now there is no room for any thought or opinion but hang em high. If News wasn’t (formerly) a flirty biz then how do we explain so many newsroom courtships that have led to happy marriages?
— Geraldo Rivera (@GeraldoRivera) November 29, 2017
In the tweets, Rivera made several infuriating, and downright malicious proclamations.
Geraldo, do you think locking the door of your office and showing an unwilling participant your genitals is just "flirting?" If so, I would love to hear what you think constitutes sexual harassment.
— Jenna Mullins (@JBomb11) November 29, 2017
He subtly insinuated that Lauer’s victims had used sex assault allegations to get back at Lauer for being a “bad boss,” and further opined that allegations should be made in a “timely manner,” say “[within] 5 yrs.” He finally suggested that news was a “flirty business,” as evidenced by “many newsroom courtships that have led to happy marriages.”
Rivera's tweets were a lot of bunk and other less print-friendly words, but it is important to note a few things.
"Why don't women speak out???" Well Bette Midler spoke out about Geraldo Rivera like 25 years ago and no one cared.
— RoastSquash Benedict (@RS_Benedict) November 29, 2017
- Most sexual assault survivors never come forward out of shame or fear of not being believed/retribution. Considering notable rapist Harvey Weinstein used actual spy agencies to destroy the reputations and careers of his would-be abusers, their worries are justified.
- There are already statues of limitations in most states. In fact, California only ended its statute of limitations for rape cases in 2016, after the case of Bill Cosby.
- Lauer was not just a bad boss, he was a serial predator who purposefully preyed on the women who worked for and around him since he was aware he couldn’t do so elsewhere without being outed.
- Many abusers, including Lauer, are protected by systems and even companies (as in the case of NBC) which allow them to continue their predations unhindered.
Rivera may have thought he was offering another perspective to the "flirty business" of news, but he forgot a teeny-tiny detail.
27 years ago, Bette Midler went on a national television and said that Geraldo Rivera drugged and groped her.
— Kevin Fallon (@kpfallon) November 30, 2017
Finally, people are paying attention. http://bit.ly/2Au8Xfu
He had already been accused of assault by Bette Midler during an interview with Barbara Walters in 1991. Of course, the cultural climate at the time was much different, so it wasn’t so much an accusation as it was a statement of unfortunate fact.
During the interview, Walters asked Midler what she thought of Rivera's claims that she and he had engaged in a "torrid sexual affair."
Geraldo Rivera Comments On Matt Lauer "News is a flirty business" And The Internet Reminds Him Of A Previous Drugging And Groping Allegation Made Against Him By Bette Midlerhttp://pic.twitter.com/rmSu3jKqYS
— TnB Opinions (@TnBopinions) November 29, 2017
At first, Midler rolled her eyes, but then she quickly said that she was amused by Rivera’s recounting because it had come at a time when she was now being regarded as a staid “little old lady-type.”
“He comes along and tells the world how great I am…” Midler said with a laugh. “Well, his penis went to his head.”
Aunt Bea Was A Tough Bird
"The Andy Griffith Show" ran from 1960 to 1968. Over the course of eight seasons, it helped make stars out of Andy Griffith and Don Knotts, while introducing Hollywood to future director, Ron Howard. But not every actor had the same luck as these three. In fact, some actors learned too late that being on the show was a career ender. And this was not the only dark secret in Mayberry.
Netlore Archives/Getty Images
Just ask Frances Bavier, aka Aunt Bee, who was highly-trained and sophisticated, but felt her character didn't show off her dramatic side. This caused tension with star Andy Griffith. But it didn't help that Griffith was a serial prankster and she had no sense of humor. But Bavier wasn't the only star whose talents had been seriously neglected.
They Employed A Communist?
Getty Images
During the "Red Scare," a time where Hollywood folks were being falsely accused of sympathizing with communists, several directors got blacklisted. Among those was Coby Ruskin, who lived in exile in the U.K. for some time before returning. Shortly after coming back to the U.S., "The Andy Griffith Show" defied Hollywood and hired him. Ruskin was pretty lucky, but others didn't have the same luck.
Andy Griffith Had A Temper
CBS Television Distribution
Andy Griffith wasn't as mild-mannered as he seemed on the show. In fact, he had anger issues, which he proved during the second season when he punched a wall and broke his hand. The writers had to add his injury into the show's storyline, by claiming his character broke his hand while capturing criminals. His bad temper also ended up affecting people in his personal life, as you can imagine.
Andy's TV Girlfriend Was Addicted
CBS Television Distribution
Joanna Moore played Peggy, Andy's girlfriend, during the show's 3rd season. What viewers didn't realize was the Moore had alcohol and drug problems, which led to her divorcing hubby Ryan O'Neal. In 1971, Moore lost custody of her kids after being arrested for drunk driving. And sadly, as it often happens with famous actors, she wasn't the only member of the crew with substance abuse problems either.
Griffith's Marriage Woes
Getty Images
Andy Griffith had been married to Barbara Edwards for 23 years. They also had two kids together. But their relationship ended badly. Rumors suggested that adultery, alcohol abuse, and domestic violence were to blame for their divorce. But it appeared that Griffith's real-life soul mate was one of his lovely co-stars.
He Slept With His Co-Star
CBS Television Distribution
Aneta Corsaut played Helen Crump, who was Sheriff Taylor's love interest on the show. But their chemistry onscreen trickled into the real world, because he and Corsaut had been having an affair throughout most of the show. Griffith eventually married two more times, but rumor has it he kept sleeping with Corsaut until she died in 1995. The only other cast member he could apparently stand was this actor.
The Day Don Knotts Quit
Don Knotts had played Barney Fife for five seasons, but didn't think the show would remain popular in season 6. So, he decided to leave the show after he tried and failed to negotiate an ownership stake in the show's production. Griffith had seen this as an affront to him, so Knotts went on to star in other movies for Universal. But this didn't stop Knotts and Griffith from remaining good friends over the years.
Griffith Was A Total Prankster
CBS Television Distribution
Andy Griffith could push anyone's buttons with his pranks, which he was notoriously known for. But he didn't know when to quit, like when he called Knotts by his first name, "Jess," which the actor didn't like. Fortunately, Knotts was BFFs with Griffith so he forgave him, but other members of the cast weren't quite as forgiving with Griffith's pranks.
He Was Awful With Love Scenes
CBS Television Distribution
During the first season, Elinor Donahue played Sheriff Taylor's girlfriend, Ellie Walker. The character was seen in the opening credits and was supposed to be a regular, but Donahue quit before the 2nd season, stating she and Griffith lacked chemistry. But Griffith also admitted that it was tough for him to show affection while being on camera. Fortunately, there was work after Griffith for Donahue. But these actresses weren't so lucky.
Some Careers Never Took Off
CBS Television Distribution
After the show ended, some cast members couldn't get a lot of work. Maggie Peterson, who played Charle Darling, only landed commercial gigs. Meanwhile, Betty Lynn, who played Thelma Lou, only landed small TV roles that were hardly worth mentioning. And Frances Bavier simply retired after the show ended. Ironically, other actors from the show were actually poached for other projects.
Knotts Was A Poacher
Universal Pictures
After Don Knotts left the show, tried recreating the chemistry that had made him famous. So, for his 1st film, "The Ghost And Mr. Chicken," he poached actors, directors, and screenwriters from "The Andy Griffith Show." Also, the movie was loosely based on the show's "The Haunted House" episode. But we can't judge Knotts for what he did, given that his childhood was a real nightmare.
Knotts Had A Tough Childhood
CBS Television Distribution
Unlike the oh-so funny character, Barney Fife, Don Knots had a horrible past. He grew up poor in Morgantown, West Virginia. He also had a father who suffered from alcoholism and schizophrenia. He even held a knife to Knott's throat once. But by the time Knotts was 13, his old man passed away. Unfortunately, one actor faced death while filming the next show.
Floyd The Barber Almost Died
CBS Television Distribution
Actor Howard McNear played Floyd the Barber, but suffered a stroke that paralyzed the entire left side of his body. By the time he returned to the show, he couldn't stand for very long, and he certainly couldn't walk either. Eventually, he left the show in 1967, and died two years later in 1969 when he suffered a second stroke. But unlike him, some actors didn't even get to appear in the series.
Black People Didn't Talk
CBS Television Distribution
Throughout all eight seasons, viewers saw other African-American extras in the background, but only Rockne Tarkington, who appeared in the episode "Opie's Piano Lesson," got the chance to say a few words. This was a huge milestone as Tarkington became the first black actor to get credited. But a darker chapter in the series occurred twenty years after "The Andy Griffith Show" ended its run.
Nirvana Wrote A Song About It
In 1989, Nirvana released the album, "Bleach," which contained the song "Floyd the Barber." But it was no coincidence. It turns out that Kurt Cobain had written the song based on the show's character, but with a twist. In the song, Cobain walks into the barbershop and gets molested and murdered by Aunt Bee, Barney, and Andy Griffith. Yikes!
