Heather Dubrow Addresses Rumors She Had Kelly Dodd Fired; Says She Wanted To Make Sure Real Housewives Of Orange County Was Going In A “Helpful, Not Harmful” Direction
I still can’t believe that Heather Dubrow will be back for Season 16 of Real Housewives of Orange County. My biggest Bravo wish came true! I can’t wait to see “Fancy Pants” and her $21 million dollar mansion. I’ll bet it has a champagne fountain.
Of course, three RHOC stars were let go from the franchise. Braunwyn Windham-Burke was handed her walking papers after two tumultuous seasons. Elizabeth Lyn Vargas was also fired. Kelly Dodd’s ouster wasn’t really a shock.
She has always been a polarizing figure. Her controversial, and incorrect, comments about the pandemic were shocking. She stated that coronavirus was “God’s way of thinning the herd!”
Kelly also made fun of the Black Lives Matter movement by wearing a “Drunk Wives Matter” hat. Many fans wanted Kelly to be removed from RHOC because of her behavior. When she was finally let go, Kelly put the blame on Braunwyn. It certainly couldn’t be Kelly’s fault, right?
And in a bizarre twist, Kelly and her husband, Rick Leventhal, claimed that they got Covid-19 from Heather’s teenage son. Say what? Kelly made the claim on her Instagram Story in June of 2021, and it was later shared by @realhousewives on Instagram. “We got COVID on New Year’s. Heather Dubrow’s son gave it to us,” Kelly stated. Kelly received a letter from the Dubrow family’s attorney, and she apologized. LoveAndyC on Twitter posted a video of what must be the most sarcastic apology ever.
During an interview on E!’s Daily Pop, Heather discussed how her return came about. Heather said, “They called me in December, and I laughed like, ‘Stop!’ And then we started talking about it and we had a family meeting about it. It just seemed like the universe was telling me it’s time,” the actress commented.

So, did Heather issue an ultimatum that she would only come back if Kelly was let go? Heather previously said that her chances of returning were higher if Kelly was gone. “I think you would know that anyone that thinks they have that kind of power on a show like this is really very misguided,” she commented. “Having said that, when I left the show, I felt like the culture of the show was changing and it wasn’t really in line with who I am or something that I felt comfortable in.” The person that Heather clashed with the most was Kelly.
“And I definitely wanted to make sure that the show was going to be moving into a direction…because they said they wanted to reboot it,” Heather remarked. “So, I wanted to make sure that it was moving in a direction that I could thrive in, that would be successful and would be beneficial to my family. Helpful, not harmful.”

Heather is also looking forward to RHOC returning to a fun vibe. “And so I think what the audience wants is the fun. Drama always happens but back in the day it was drama like she broke the bow off my cake or something silly,” she shared. “And I think that we can mock and make fun of and explore the dynamics of relationships and everything in a fun way while still having great fashion, going on beautiful trips,” she stated. “Everyone’s excited to finally see our home.”
Heather added, “I think everyone’s going to be very, very happy with this season.” Well, except for Kelly.
