The on-screen superhero was at the right place at the right time.
Benedict Cumberbatch, who’s known for his roles as Doctor Strange in the Marvel movies as well as Sherlock Holmes in the BBC TV series Sherlock, was traveling in an Uber car with his wife, Sophie Hunter, when he saw a cyclist being mugged.

Consequences
The cyclist, who works for the food delivery company Deliveroo, was violently hit on the head with a bottle and was seen to be pushed around when Benedict stepped into the scene.
Manuel Dias, the Uber driver, said, “I was taking Benedict and his wife to a club — but I didn’t know it was him at first. I went to turn down into Marylebone High Street and we saw four guys were pushing around a Deliveroo cyclist.”
“My passenger jumped out, ran over and pulled the men away. They turned towards him and things looked like getting worse, so I joined in.”
“He stood there instructing them in the street, shouting, ‘Leave him alone’.”
“It was only then I recognised Benedict. Then it all got a bit surreal. Here was Sherlock Holmes fighting off four attackers just round the corner from Baker Street.”
Benedict reportedly dragged the four assailants off the bloodied cyclist. When they tried to punch Benedict, he quickly and successfully evaded them. That’s when the attackers realized it was him and fled from the scene.

Sky News
The dramatic incident happened near the fictional home of Sherlock Holmes – 221B Baker Street, the star of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s novels.
Deliveroo praised Benedict for his heroic act through a tweet on Saturday.
Thank you Benedict Cumberbatch for your brave actions. Deliveroo riders are heroes – their safety is our priority and any violence against them is totally unacceptable. So on behalf of everyone at deliveroo: thank you. pic.twitter.com/NGCkQB3z7J

When the Sun contacted the actor, he responded by saying, “I did it out of, well, I had to, you know…”
The group of attackers escaped without stealing anything and the cyclist did not require any hospital treatment.
Dias, the Uber driver also said, “Benedict was courageous, brave and selfless. If he hadn’t stepped in the cyclist could have been seriously injured.”
