After His Wife Suffered A Stroke, He Wanted To Learn How To Do Her Hair

June 04, 2018

Andrew and Theresa have been married for 45 years. When Theresa had a stroke 18 years ago, Andrew made it a point to be her best caretaker.

During Mother’s Day this year, their three children surprised Theresa with a gift certificate to The Foundry Salon in New Braunfels, Texas.

Theresa fell in love with her new hairstyle, but when she tried to recreate it after she took a shower the following morning, she was disappointed that she couldn’t.

But her devoted husband, Andrew, returned to the salon so he could learn how to style his wife’s hair.

Andrea Gomez, a hairstylist at the salon, realized that Andrew wanted to help his wife style her hair, she wanted to help him.

Raigan Kelley, another stylist at the salon, took a video of Andrew while Andrea taught him how to use a round brush to curl Theresa’s hair.

When she posted it on her Facebook page, she said that it was proof that true love really exists.

Proof that true love really exists… she can no longer style her hair herself and her husband insisted on learning how to do it for her step by step. From products, to the way you hold the brush and dryer…truly one of the best things I have been able to witness in my life. Brought tears to my eyes..what an amazing man and what a lucky woman. ❤Bless them

“[It was] truly one of the best things I have been able to witness in my life,’ she wrote. ‘[It] brought tears to my eyes..what an amazing man and what a lucky woman.”

Andrew was also very grateful that the stylists at the salon were very accommodating and helpful. “I just thought she was going to show me a few things with the hair blower, how to use it, with the brush and stuff too keep it with nice volume. And all of a sudden it ends up being a 45-minute lesson,” Andrew told KENS 5.

The couple’s son said that ever since his mom got a stroke, his father never complained. He was even able to find a job as a bus driver so he could work and take care of his wife during the day.

“He goes to work at six and gets off at 8:30, gets home and gets her breakfast, fed and bathed,’ Steve said. ‘They do lunch, and then he goes back to work from two to five, then he comes home for dinner … and takes care of her and gets her ready for bed.”

“This type of story may help some people, may get to them and touch them in a way that they just need to work a little harder with their relationships,’ he said. ‘You gotta just make things happen, instead of just giving up.”
