June 02, 2021

A decade ago, Courtney Stodden was a child bride.

Now, they are divorced, recently came out as nonbinary, and are living their best life.

That best life just became so much sweeter.

Over Memorial Day Weekend, Courtney announced their engagement!

On Sunday, May 30, Courtney Stodden took to Instagram to share the amazing news.

"I said yes ..." they captioned, alongside a glimpse of their gorgeous ring (and self).

"OH and the ring made me gag it’s so beautiful," Courtney added.

Courtney began dating 41-year-old producer Chris Sheng in 2017.

At the time, they had separated from their ex-husband, Doug Hutchison.

Courtney filed for divorce in 2018. That divorce was finalized over a year ago, in March 2020.

Chris Sheng took to his own Instagram to share the happy news.

"So this happened!" he captioned, referring to the engagement after his May 28 proposal.

"Not how I planned but the moment was right," Chris explained.

"On Friday, May 28 I proposed to the love of my life," Chris announced.

"And," he continued, "they said Yes."

Chris expressed: "I feel so blessed and fortunate."

"We have both grown so much since we first met," Chris gushed.

"And," he continued, "the fact that we have both been able to grow into better, stronger, more secure individuals while still being in a relationship together ..."

Chris wrote that this "... makes me have faith that this partnership will last a lifetime."

"For the first time we’re both experiencing unconditional love," Chris gushed.

He referred to this as "The truest kind of love."

Chris then went on to expand upon what this means to him.

"The kind where we may not always like each other," Chris described unconditional love.

"But," he affirmed, they "will ALWAYS love and respect each other."

"I promise to always be your rock, support, and shoulder to lean on - no matter what," Chris vowed.

Chris concluded his moving caption: "I got you. Ily."

I-L-Y of course stands for "I love you."

That is very sweet and heartwarming.

Courtney opened up to E! News about the emotional proposal.

"Chris got down on one knee while I was crying my eyes out!" they described.

"We returned home from a night out in Palm Springs," Courtney detailed, setting the stage.

"And in between the rosè and pent up feelings," Courtney shared, "I needed a good cry!"

They had become emotional because "everything within the last few weeks has dredged up a lot of past trauma."

Courtney affirmed that "It really was such a sweet moment."

"He reminded me that I'm not alone," Courtney gushed.

"And," they described, Chris "said, 'I'm never going anywhere. I'll always be here for you.'"

That is so sweet!

Courtney confessed that they had "never pictured myself getting married again."

"But," they shared, "I knew in that moment that it was right."

Courtney added "and that he truly loves me."

"He's stayed by my side through some of the hardest times in my life," Courtney pointed out.

"I said 'yes' and hugged him tight," they recalled.

Courtney continued: "And then I said, 'Let's see the ring!!!' My head was spinning!"

Courtney compared the engagement ring to Daisy Buchanan's from The Great Gatsby.

"It was blinding!" they raved. "I was so excited and overwhelmed."

Courtney admitted: "I took the ring out of the box myself and ran around the corner with it, like a child."

"I know this time around I want a huge princess wedding," Courtney shared.

They explained that they are hoping for "something that makes me feel like it's all been worth it."

"This time I don't need parental consent," Courtney pointed out.

"This time is real," Courtney affirmed.

"I'm one hundred percent showing up as an adult," they said, "and making my own choices."

"But the wedding -- that'll take some time (and a lot of help) to coordinate."

"I'm just so overwhelmed!" Courtney admitted.

"And," they added, they "can't believe it's all happening so fast."

Congratulations to Courtney and Chris! Courtney deserves the world.
