This is something that a little boy should never have to do.

4-year-old Addalyn “Addy” Joy Sooter was dying of cancer when this photo was taken. It shows her brother Jackson comforting her in her final moments before she passed away.

Their father, Matt Sooter, shared the photo on his Facebook page and the emotional moment has been breaking hearts all over the internet.

Addy passed away on June 3 after battling cancer for almost 19 months. She was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontene Giloma (DIPG) in November of 2016 and doctors had found a tumor growing in her brain stem.

Just recently, Addy’s symptoms had progressed rapidly and the little girl was soon admitted to the hospital.

“Yesterday she woke up as her spunky playful self. While we still see short instances of our girl, she can no longer eat or swallow without difficulty and she’s sleeping most of the time now and we’ve admitted her into inpatient care,”

“Most likely she doesn’t have much time left,” her father said.

The post was shared over 1,000 times and had more than 4,000 reactions. The caption that accompanied the photo showed how the family struggled with seeing their precious Addy suffering from the disease.

“A little boy should not have to say goodbye to his partner in crime, his play mate, his best friend, his little sister. This isn’t how it’s supposed to be. But this is the broken world we live in.”

During the weekend, a celebration of Addy’s life was held in Arkansas with people all over the world watching live on Facebook.

Addy’s family asked that, instead of giving flowers, people donate to the Michael Mosier Defeat DIPG Foundation, Arkansas Children’s Hospital, or Ronald McDonald House Charities of Arkansas.
