It’s been a week since Aaron Schlossberg was caught on camera on a racist tirade at a Manhattan restaurant.

After the incident, he received massive backlash online, was hounded by media, and kicked out of his office building. Now, he’s issued out a public apology on Twitter.

He said that the video did not convey his true self and that he was not racist.
He continued with, “One of the reasons I moved to New York is precisely because of the remarkable diversity offered in this wonderful city.”
“I love this country and this city, in part because of immigrants and the diversity of cultures immigrants bring to this country,” he added.
“Again, my sincerest apologies to anyone and everyone I hurt. Thank you.”
But Twitter users were quick to say that he was only forced to give an apology for damage control.
Ah, yes. The “there’s video of me being racist but I’m not really racist because that’s not who I am even though it’s me on the video” defense. pic.twitter.com/VnuUWconY0

Why is it that every time these racists get caught saying and doing racist things they respond with, "That is not who I am. I am not racist." YOU ARE! And that will never change until you admit it. It's on camera 6 times!!! #aaronschlossberg https://t.co/jeqTFoFVv5

The apology was posted on the same day that the City Council committee called for his disbarment. Schlossberg has a history “expressing racist, bigoted and hostile anti-immigrant sentiments in public,” said a letter from the Council’s Black, Latino and Asian Caucus to the state court system’s disciplinary committee.
“This persistent display of bigotry is ample evidence that he cannot conduct himself in a professional capacity with regard to race,” the letter continues.
Councilman Francisco Moya, who is part of the committee that sent the letter, wasn’t buying the apology.
“This man is a lawyer, someone entrusted to be a custodian of the Constitution and defend civil liberties,” he said in a statement.
“The First Amendment may afford him the right to espouse white-nationalist beliefs but it does not protect him from the American Bar Association’s own disciplinary rules.”
Aside from the threat of disbarment, a GoFundMe campaign for a Mariachi band to perform outside of his office pushed through. But since he got kicked out, the organizers brought the band outside his home instead.

The protest was held on Friday where people gathered to eat tacos, sing Spanish songs, and enjoy themselves. During this event, they showed that New York City does not approve of his racism.
