It’s no secret that we at LWLies are long-time admirers of the British writer/director Joanna Hogg. (Hopefully by now you’ll have had a chance to pick up a copy our 80th issue, which features her sublime latest, The Souvenir, on the cover.) Yet while she’s held in high regard by critics and her industry peers, Hogg remains something of an under-appreciated talent on these shores.

To help rectify that, we recently recorded a special podcast paying tribute to Hogg’s first three features, Unrelated, Archipelago and Exhibition. You can listen to the episode here.

In addition, video essayist Will Webb has provided a handy primer in the form of a video essay, exploring the recurring narrative themes and visual motifs that constitute Hogg’s bold, distinctive style. It’s an insightful and essential beginner’s guide to this superlative filmmaker.

All three films mentioned in the video are currently available to rent on Curzon Home Cinema, and as a reader of LWLies you can claim 50 per cent off when you watch any of them.

To redeem, enter the code LWL50 and enjoy Unrelated, Archipelago and Exhibition until midnight on 30 September.
