Netflix Opens Another Chapter of Armistead Maupin’s Tales of the City on June 7
Based on the nine-novel series by author Armistead Maupin, the seminal 1993 Tales of the City miniseries found Laura Linney’s Mary Ann Singleton moving from Cleveland to San Francisco, meeting beloved landlady Anna Madrigal (played by Olympia Dukakis) and befriending the vibrant LGBTQ community living at 28 Barbary Lane. On Tuesday, Netflix dropped the teaser for their upcoming limited-series sequel of Tales, which finds Mary Ann returning to the city twenty years later to reunite with her adult daughter Shawna, played by Ellen Page, and ex-husband Brian, portrayed by Paul Gross. Despite leaving her former life behind, Mary Ann quickly finds herself once again making a home under Madrigal’s wing, alongside a new group of queer San Franciscans. Even if you weren’t aware of the original, whew, when that Anthony and the Johnsons’ “For Today I Am A Boy” hits. Tales of the City premieres on June 7.
