After announcing that she is quitting comedy, and launching a thousand think pieces, with Nanette, Hannah Gadsby is coming back to New York with her next show, Douglas. The new show’s named after Gadsby’s very cute dog. After a set of performances in Melbourne, Gadsby starts her first tour of the U.S. with Douglas on April 30, including stops in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Houston, before, as was just announced, settling down in New York for four weeks at the end of this July. Gadsby’s Off Broadway engagement will take place at the Daryl Roth Theatre from July 23 to August 17. Tickets will go on sale April 14.
Gadsby brought Nanette Off Broadway last summer just before the stand-up special popped up on Netflix and catapulted her into a new level of celebrity. Gadsby has promised that “the humor will be back” with Douglas, which will cover how she dealt with her sudden fame after attacking comedy in Nanette, though she assumes it’ll “probably [upset] some comedy purists again.” Being in New York will also bring her that much closer to the home of Saturday Night Live, giving Michael Che a new chance to finally discover her work.
