Kelly was trying to baptize his family in a bathtub after saying that he was “told by God” to do it. He initially grabbed his wife first and tried to baptize her. She said that Kelly held her and her children underwater.

He had repeatedly tried to baptize them. He said, “God told me to do this. God’s not going to tell somebody to drown their own kids,” said Deputy Barry Mynes Jr. of the Logan County Sheriff’s Department.

He said, “I held them under water because I want them to go to Heaven and to me, that gave me the impression that he was just wanting to hold them under until they would go to heaven,” Mynes said.

His wife was found outside the home soaking wet. When the officers entered the home, the father reportedly said, “I’m ready for it. I know what I’ve done.”

The father allegedly said that the children were kicking and screaming while he “baptized” them and were telling him to stop.

There was evidence of a struggle in the home with puddles of water and clothes leading from the bathroom to the living room.

Kelly is being held in the Southwestern Regional Jail on $100,000 bond. Jail records didn’t indicate whether he has an attorney.
