We’ve heard of renovating houses, but the cruise company, Silversea, has really upped the ante on their most recent ambitious project.

Instead of building a bigger luxury cruise liner, Silversea decided to slice one of their existing ships and add an extra 15 meters to the middle.

Yeah, you heard that right. They’ve cut the luxury cruise liner called Silver Spirit  in half and inserted a prebuilt 15-meter or 50 feet extension.

The company has employed more than 500 skilled workers to put the ship back together with military precision.

The renovation requires approximately 846 tons of steel, 110,000 meters of cabling and 8,000 meters of piping and is believed to come with a $100 million price tag.

By doing the renovation, the ship’s size will increase by 12% and can make room for an eight-restaurant formation, outdoor seating and an expansion of the pool deck.

The project was done so that the Silver Spirit would be the same size as their biggest liner, Silver Muse, which was launched in April of 2017.

The new and improved vessel is set to sail on May 6, 2018 and will be traveling between Rome and Barcelona.
