Vega Blossom, 19, was just minding her own business as she was lining up to buy cupcakes at her favorite bakery called Designer Desserts in Valparaiso, Indiana.
The bakery was having a sale before they closed at midnight and Vega wanted to stop by. She was waiting behind a woman who was buying cake and behind her was another woman with a friend.
The woman in front of her was taking ages to buy her cake so when it was Vega’s turn, she overheard the woman behind her say, “Thank god, now let’s hope this fat b*tch doesn’t buy all the cupcakes.”
She was so appalled by what these strangers had to say about her. “When I heard the nasty things the women said, I honestly wanted to cry,” Vega expressed. “It really hurt my feelings.”
“How could these grown women be so mean to someone they’ve never met, let alone talked to,” she thought. “But I swallowed the hurt and thought of the best possible thing I could do back to them that wasn’t horrible, but that would teach them a lesson about respecting others.”
So out of spite, she bought all the cupcakes, costing her $54. For Vega, it was a small price to pay for the satisfaction of getting back at the rude women. She also gave the cupcakes away to her co-workers for Easter.
She posted the experience on Facebook and received a lot of reactions.
There were people who responded negatively to the post.
Ultimately, Vega was overwhelmed to see that there were also good people who cheered her on.
In the end, you could say Vega won the battle against the fat-shamers because her favorite bakery sent her cupcakes to show her their support.
