Raikkonen was having his tires fitted onto the vehicle when he was given the go signal by the pit crew. But the mechanic who was fitting his left rear tire wasn’t fully out of the way when the crew gave the signal causing Raikkonen to speed off, running over the mechanic’s leg and snapping it in two.
The whole incident was broadcast on live television and Raikkonen pulled out of the race after the pit stop as the rear tire wasn’t properly connected.

F1 fans criticized Raikkonen for not checking up on the mechanic, but the driver was unaware what happened.
The mechanic, who was identified as Francesco, has suffered multiple fractures to his leg including his shin bone and fibula.
He was rushed to the hospital for treatment after the accident.
