Deli Worker Who Went Viral For His Singing Gets Into Berklee College Of Music

April 03, 2018

Four months ago, Guillermhe “Gilly” Assuncao never expected to go to college. But after a video of him singing went viral, he chased his dream of going to Berklee College of Music and was recently presented with his acceptance letter.

Russo’s

Gilly works at Russo’s Market, a deli in Boston where he started out as a dishwasher. He mans the counter, works the deli, makes sandwiches, and does deliveries for catering. But customers were in for a surprise when Gilly started singing.

Who would have thought that Gilly had an operatic baritone voice?

Before he came to the United States, he had a small amount of voice training and he sang in bars, concerts, and restaurants.

When a video of Gilly was posted on the Russo’s page, he was surprised to get more than 200,000 views.

GoFundMe

It has always been Gilly’s dream to go to college, and now that he’s been accepted into Berklee’s, a GoFundMe page was set up by a fan to help pay for his tuition. So far, it’s raised nearly $3,000 and Gilly has expressed how grateful he is for the generosity and kindness he’s been receiving.
