A picture paints a thousand words and in this case, one teacher was able to help her school in Oklahoma by merely posting a photo of a broken chair.

Laurissa Kovacs was so concerned by the conditions that her students were going through in Puterbaugh Middle School in McAlester, Oklahoma, that it pushed her to post a photo of a broken chair on her Facebook.

Laurissa expressed that students had to bring folding chairs from their homes because classrooms didn’t have enough seats. It got so bad that a student had to drag their chair when they sharpened their pencil so they could save their spot.

The post was shared over 82,000 times with people commenting on how they could help. After a week of sharing the photo, the school received more than $44,000 in donated supplies.

Laurissa was overwhelmed by the massive contributions by strangers on the internet and shared another post about how grateful she was.

Laurissa is only one of the hundreds of teachers participating in a walkout to increase funding for schools and higher wages for educators. Though she might be busy participating in the walkout, the supplies to her school are still coming in. She plans to share the donations to other schools in the district who need supplies.
