Gucci Slammed For Putting Turbans On White Models
Just because you are a “high fashion” brand doesn’t give you carte blanche to wantonly pilfer people’s culture.
According to DailyMail, Gucci is under heavy fire from Sikhs who are deeply offended that the company sent their white models onto the runway wearing turbans in a recent show at Milan Fashion Week.
Yo.. @gucci … I mess with you guys… but this isn't a good look for you… could you not find a brown model? pic.twitter.com/INqxwrfB0t

Canadian model/actor Avan Jogia encouraged all POC to speak out against such cultural appropriation.
and please, other people of colour, this happens to ALL of us, say something even if it doesn't apply to you personally. I got you, if you got me.

There are gang of brown folks who feel just like Avan.
My blood is boiling right now. As a Sikh, I see this as a huge sign of disrespect and disregard towards Sikhism. It isn’t hard to educate yourself on the significance of a turban. This isn’t a mere fashion accessory! Thank you Avan for speaking out on this

Thus far, Gucci has made no comment regarding the controversy. No shock there.
