Once Upon a Time in Hollywood added to Cannes line-up

Following months of speculation, Quentin Tarantino’s ninth film will receive its world premiere at the 72nd Cannes Film Festival this month. That’s according to Screen International, who today revealed that Once Upon a Time in Hollywood has been added to the Official Selection.

At the line-up conference in Paris in April, General Delegate Thierry Frémaux hinted that a slot was being kept open for Tarantino, who has been racing to finish the film in time for the festival. “I’ve seen a large part of the film. It would be a real achievement if he finishes it in time for May. He also wants to present it in 35mm which is making the post-production even more complicated,” Frémaux revealed.

From everything we know about the film, it certainly makes sense that the festival would go out of their way to accommodate it. Even though it sounds like it’s been a monster to edit, we remain hopeful that QT has pulled something special out of his little green bag. There’s no news yet as to whether it will be entered into the main competition, but if so it will be the director’s first shot at the Palme d’Or for 10 years, since Inglourious Basterds debuted at the festival.

The Cannes Film Festival runs 13-25 May. Follow us @LWLies for reports and first look reviews.
