Puppy Jumped To Owner’s Rescue After Rattlesnake Attack, Suffers Bite On Face
A 6-month-old golden retriever puppy jumped in front of a rattlesnake to save his owner’s life.
Paula Godwin, 44, was taking her two dogs out for an early morning walk on a paved Arizona trail when the group encountered a rattlesnake. She didn’t notice it at first as it was camouflaged.

But before she could step on the snake, her “hero of a puppy” as she described on a Facebook post jumped in front of where she could have been bit. The rattlesnake bit poor Todd on the face.

When Paula realized what had happened, she picked him up and sprang down the hill as she called the animal hospital nearby. She was there in five minutes and the vet administered anti-venom to treat Todd.

“I got him to the hospital and they administered anti-venom right away,” she said. “They did not hesitate. He was there for about 12 hours, and we were able to bring him home Friday night.”
Todd is now recovering from his rattlesnake injury as seen in Paula’s recent update.

“I would not want this to happen to my dogs or anybody’s dogs,” Paula said. “Of course, I would rather have been bitten by the snake, but he did [instead].”
“It just so happened that he got in the way or at least he was too curious to see what was next to my legs, which saved me from getting bitten,” she added.
Whatever Todd’s intention was, Paula expressed, “he’s still my hero.”
