Russian Plane Crash Has No Survivors On Board

All 71 people aboard a Saratov Airlines plane died as the plane crashed southeast of Moscow on Sunday, according to Russian state news agency Tass. Those on board included 65 passengers and 6 crew members.

The Antonov-148 aircraft disappeared from the radar very shortly after taking from Moscow’s Domodedovo Airport, and then crashed soon afterward. CNN’s Matthew Chance reported from Moscow saying, “The snow is very dense … the Moscow region has had some of its heaviest snowfall in decades. It’s not clear at this stage whether weather was factor in this crash.”

The cause of the horrendous crash remains uncertain, but the Investigative Committee of Russia said officials have since launched a criminal investigation. Russia’s President, Vladimir Putin, ordered the creation of a “special commission in connection with the plane crash,” said Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov. “The President also expresses deep condolences to all those who lost relatives and friends in this disaster.”
