Father of Three Victims Lurches at Larry Nassar During Sentencing in Attempt to Attack Him
t was a dramatic scene in court Friday morning when one distraught father of three daughters – all of whom were molested by Larry Nasser – tried to attack him in court.
Randall Margraves was at court to support his daughters, who were giving victim impact statements against Nassar, the former Olympic physician accused of molesting 265 girls over the course of his decades in medicine. He thought he would be a quiet spectator.
It didn't quite turn out that way.
“I did not know the content of the impact statements,” Margraves said later in explanation of his actions. After his daughters gave their statements, Margraves cursed Lassar, but Judge Janice Cunningham told him to stop.
He then asked her for a particular favor.
“I’m asking you as part of the sentencing to grant me five minutes alone in a locked room with this demon,” Margraves said. When Cunningham denied this favor, he asked, “Would you give me one minute?”
“That’s not how our legal system works,” the Judge explained.
“Well, I’m going to have to,” Margraves replied, then he launched himself toward Nassar.
Police stopped the distraught father before he could reach Nassar, and rushed him from the room.
As he was escorted out, he yelled, “I want that son of a b****! Give me one minute with that bastard.” He also added, “What if this happened to you guys?”
Assistant Attorney General Angela Povilaitis addressed the court as Margraves was taken out of the room.
“You cannot behave like that,” she said. “No one can behave like this. I want to make sure it’s crystal clear.”
To this, Margraves responded: “You haven’t lived through it, lady.”
