Rosario Dawson has built a career playing badass, no-nonsense women in everything from Josie and the Pussycats to her new USA series Briarpatch. Dawson has also earned her geek stripes by appearing in several beloved comic book and nerdy franchises, from voicing Batgirl in The Lego Batman Movie and Wonder Woman in DC animated films to playing Claire Temple in Netflix’s Marvel universe.

Dawson also created the comic book miniseries O.C.T.: Occult Crimes Taskforce, which she lent her likeness to. And soon she’ll be playing Ahsoka Tano in season 2 of Disney+’s The Mandalorian. In an interview on Variety After-Show, Dawson discussed her plans for nerd world domination, saying “The two universes, Star Trek and Star Wars. I get in those two, I’m telling you, man, that’s it. I will just retire. And then I can just concentrate on going to school and running for office. That would be it.”

While Dawson is still in talks to take on the role of Tano, she credited the fandom with keeping her name in the mix. “That’s not confirmed yet but when that happens, I will be very happy. I’m very excited for that to be confirmed at some point,” saying that the casting would be “a million and one percent because of the fans.”

But with the world of Star Wars within her grasp, Dawson is also pitching herself to join the Star Trek universe. And while Dawson would be content to play a background Romulan or Vulcan, her family is encouraging her to try to become the next Q. Q (not to be confused with the James Bond tech whiz) is an extra-dimensional being that possesses power over time, space, and reality itself.

Q was most famously protrayed by John de Lancie, and appeared on Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager. “I could just walk through as a Klingon. Just something in the background. And my brother got really mad and said ‘absolutely not!’ I was thinking I could just be a red shirt, who always get killed. He was like, ‘No! We talked about this. You have to be a captain!'”, said Dawsone. She continued, “He plays the Star Trek Online game and does missions and thinks I have to at least be a captain. But then my dad said I should be Q. Because male Q, female Q, young Q. They are all just Q. It’s the Q continuum. It would be great. Then I could jump on Discovery and I can be on Picard. I just want to be on with Jean-Luc Picard.”

What do you think of Rosario Dawson playing Q? It’s just a dream at this point, but I could see Dawson making a great addition to the new Star Trek universe.
